Drugs and potential weapons have been seized and a suspect arrested after officers stopped a car near Sandwich.

Members of east Kent’s Divisional Support Unit spotted the vehicle had a faulty rear light near the A256 at Richborough on Friday 19 August 2022.

After approaching the vehicle to speak to the driver about the fault, grounds were raised to carry out a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Arrest

A large amount of cannabis, two Stanley-type knives and other items were subsequently seized as part of an ongoing investigation.

A 30-year-old man from the Deal area was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and possession of a bladed article.

He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue. The car was seized due to it not having valid insurance.
