A police officer required hospital treatment following the arrest of a suspect in Maidstone.

On Thursday 4 August 2022, patrols were called to a disturbance at a restaurant in Week Street.

Following a search of the area, a woman was detained after which it is alleged she became abusive and made racist comments as members of the public were walking past.

Assault

She was then escorted to a police vehicle where it is further alleged the woman kicked a police sergeant and bit a constable’s hand.

The officer later required treatment at hospital to a deep cut and a serious hand injury.

Sherilee Wray, of Salem Street, Maidstone was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm; assaulting an emergency worker; racially aggravated threatening, insulting and abusive behaviour; and causing the public harassment, alarm and distress.

The 44-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 6 August where she was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 5 September.
