A suspected thief who is alleged to have repeatedly targeted an Edenbridge supermarket and punched and headbutted staff has been charged.

Police have been investigating a series of thefts from Waitrose in Mont St Aignan Way, which have taken place between February and June 2022.

It is reported that during these months items including meat products and alcohol have been stolen by the same suspect.

Violent assaults

In the latest incident, on Tuesday 7 June, the suspect is alleged to have attempted to leave the store without paying for several bottles of alcohol and was challenged by staff, two of whom were punched and headbutted.

Stephen Ewens, 35, of Oak View, Edenbridge was arrested at the scene and later charged with five counts of theft, and two counts of assault.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 9 June.
