Woman woken up in bed is threatened during aggravated burglary in Chatham

Police are investigating after a man is reported to have forced his way into a house in Ordnance Street, Chatham at around 3.30am on Sunday 5 June 2022.

While inside he woke up a woman who was sleeping inside a bedroom before threatening her. The victim was able to run from the house and seek help.

Following the incident, police went to the house and found an open downstairs rear window. They also discovered a screwdriver inside the bedroom which they believe belonged to the suspect.

Officers are also linking the incident to a report of an attempted burglary in the same road at around 3.10am  when a loud noise was heard before a bathroom window was found open.

Officers are also linking the incidents to a report at 1.30am where footsteps were heard on a roof extension. The victim confronted the man who then threatened them before he was seen jumping over a nearby garden fence.

Description

The suspect has been described as white with dark hair and wearing grey jogging bottoms and a dark puffer-style jacket.
