A man was pulled out of mud in Folkestone Harbour on 22nd May by Kent Fire and Rescue Service, just over a week after two men had been similarly rescued from the same area.
Waist deep
The man had become stuck knee deep but due to the rising tide by the time crews got to the scene he was waist deep.
Two firefighters used a reach pole with clamping float and flotation collar to support the man to free his feet. The man was guided back to the hard sand of the beach area.
Danger
If you’re planning to walk near the coast at any time, please remember some simple guidance:
- Be aware of tidal movements and times
- Avoid putting yourself in danger – the ground may look safe but might not be. It also puts others at risk who may try to enter the mud to help you, but become stuck themselves.
- Stay on the track near waterways and keep dogs away from the mud. Never follow your dog if it gets stuck – just call 999.
- In the event of an emergency try not to panic and spread your weight as much as possible so you are standing evenly.
- Always carry your mobile and call 999 in an emergency.
