A drug user who threatened to infect a woman with syringes has been sentenced to more than two years in prison.
Stephen Buggs, 38, was at his home in the Sturry area of Canterbury on Christmas Eve 2021 when the victim knocked on his door after hearing loud banging noises coming from within.
He was immediately abusive to the woman, who was known to him, and produced a small flip knife and syringes that he repeatedly jabbed towards her.
He was arrested by Kent Police officers a short time later. Whilst being taken into custody he spat in the back of the police van and later assaulted an officer by biting him on the leg.
Charged
Buggs was subsequently charged with offences including assault, making threats with a sharp object, criminal damage and assaulting an emergency worker, and pleaded guilty prior to his appearance at Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday 22 February 2022 where he was sentenced to two years and four months’ imprisonment.
Investigating officer PC Ella Russell said: ‘Stephen Buggs’ actions on this particular evening were disgraceful and put an innocent member of the public in serious fear for her own safety.
‘Being threatened with a knife and syringes left her understandably traumatised, and I hope she can take some comfort in the knowledge that Buggs is now behind bars.
‘Drugs ruin lives and I hope he takes the opportunity whilst in prison to turn his around and prevent him committing such self-destructive actions again in the future.’
