A woman who was assaulted and threatened by a man with a knife during a three-hour ordeal has seen him jailed for two years.

On 20 June 2020, the victim was at an address in Hawkhurst when a man she knew, Edward Luff, started to be abusive towards her.

He then leapt upon the victim, punched her several times and wrapped her hair around her neck making it difficult to breath.

Knife

Luff then went to the kitchen and returned with a knife threatening to stab her. The victim defended herself and in the process suffered a cut to her arm.

The ordeal continued for around three hours until the victim was able to escape from the house and the police were alerted.

Luff, from Hawkhurst was arrested later the same day and was charged on 21 June.

Sentenced

The 41-year-old pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm at Maidstone Crown Court and on Thursday 11 November 2021 was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Luff will also be subject to a five-year restraining order upon his release.

PC Jonathan Short of the Maidstone Vulnerability Investigation Team, said: ‘This was a terrifying assault by a cowardly bully who is now, quite rightly, starting a prison sentence.
‘Luff gave no thought for the impact his actions would have on his victim and it is fortunate the injuries she suffered at his hands were not worse.
‘I would like to praise the victim who has courageously assisted us throughout the investigation to ensure this man is brought to justice.’
