High visibility patrols were in Canterbury City Centre at the weekend (23 October 2021) to promote trouble-free socialising.
Officers were positioned in key areas across the town centre to prevent and deter criminal activity in public places and to talk to students about the importance of personal safety.
Inspector Guy Thompson from the Community Safety Unit said: ‘We want young people to have fun and stay safe. We understand that for many of the new students in Canterbury this will be their first time away from home which can be quite daunting. It’s important that we help their transition to university life and talk to them about understanding their limits and how they can protect themselves when they are at their most vulnerable.’
Officers were working with our partner agencies to keep our communities and students safe while also monitoring anti-social behaviour which can impact on residents.
Inspector Guy Thompson added: ‘We want our communities to feel safe when enjoying an evening out and to remember that there is always help and support available if you need it.
‘The general message is know your limits and look out for one another. Have fun but be aware of the dangers of drinking too much and always consider those around you, both on and off campus.’
