The popular Charivari event, organized by arts group Strange Cargo, returned after two years, due to the pandemic, albeit in a pared down picnic at the bandstand version for this year.

Normally there would have been a long highly colourful parade from The Stade by the fishmarket through the town to the Leas but due to the ongoing need for caution, the event was reduced to a music and entertainment event, arranged by Folkestone Festivals and The Chambers Cafe, whilst people were able to enjoy a picnic beside the Bandstand.

The event took place despite some occasionally inclement weather and attracted a good crowd during the afternoon event. The wonderful folk group The Rattlers’, stepped in at the last minute to entertain the throng with a medley of lively music throughout.

Indeed, their music could be heard from as far away as the Parish Churchyard as it drifted along the Leas.

It is hoped that next year will see the return of the full fun parade and event on the Leas.

Folkestone Air Display

In the meantime next weekend sees the Folkestone Festivals Music Festival on Saturday and Sunday.

This will be enhanced by the Folkestone Air Display on Sunday with the Battle of Britain memorial Flight at 2pm, (not 1pm as has been mentioned), Stampe Biplane display 3pm and finally the Red Arrows from 4pm; alongside numerous stalls and a vintage car rally near The Grand.

Spectators are urged to use public transport, or there will be extra car parking at Radnor Park for £5 for the day.
