To celebrate the impending arrival of a new fleet of Biffa trucks Ashford Borough Council is hosting a photo competition through Aspire Landscape Management, the council’s grounds maintenance service, to showcase the breadth of biodiversity in the borough.

To enter residents will need to submit their photographs of wildlife in the borough.

From birds to insects or anything in between, no wild animal is too big or too small to be featured.

The top three images will be put onto the sides the trucks for all of Ashford to see, we’ll even give the lucky winners the option of placing their social media handle on the side.

The nine new vehicles will have engines that are more environmentally friendly than their predecessors and the fleet’s carbon footprint will also be reduced as the new trucks will be more efficient at packing waste, which will mean fewer trips to the drop off station.

Cllr Andrew Buchanan, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Land Management said “The new Biffa fleet will not only be better for the planet, the trucks will also be more efficient, reliable and is another step forward in our goal to become carbon neutral by 2030”

“It is worth noting that the new trucks will create an improved working environment for the bin crews, who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to keep our bins emptied and our streets clean.”

Cllr Andrew Buchanan

Entries should be submitted to wildlifecomp@ashford.gov.uk and should include where the photo was taken, full name, address and contact number. Images need to be as high a resolution as possible and sent to us in a JPEG or EPS format. Deadline for entries is 30th June so get snapping.
