Kent Fire and Rescue Service has been called to assist Kent Police at the Napier Barracks in Folkestone, following reports of a fire.

Eight fire engines have been sent to the scene.

People living and working in the surrounding area are advised to close their windows and doors as a precaution, due to smoke coming from the incident.

It is understood that police were called to a disturbance at the barracks, which is housing a number of asylum seekers, at around 2.00pm.

Later it was reported an accommodation hut was on fire and the Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the site. The incident is ongoing and roads in the area have been closed.
