Support for families and individuals who are struggling to buy food or keep warm this winter is being provided across the Folkestone and Hythe district.
Along with other local authority areas in England, the district is to receive a share of the government’s £170 million COVID Winter Grant Scheme.
Now Folkestone & Hythe District Council is working with local organisations, including Citizen’s Advice, food banks and the community support hubs, to contact the vulnerable and those most in need, to help them pay utility bills or buy food over the winter.
Councillor Jenny Hollingsbee, F&HDC Cabinet member for Communities, said: “We have looked closely at how this money is best distributed and we are working with those organisations who can identify quickly those in need of help through their network of contacts.

“The idea is to ensure those in real need do not suffer unduly with things like lack of food and being unable to keep warm due to not being able to pay energy bills over the winter and that children when they are not at school have the food that they need.
“It will also help those who have been self-isolating and others who have suffered adversely due to the impact of the pandemic.”
The district’s £75,000 share of the funding is available until the end of March 2021 or until it has been distributed. The organisations which will be giving out the district funding will be contacting those in need. Nominations can also be made here http://bit.ly/34A3d1v
