Today the Government has announced that the borough of Ashford will be placed in Tier 3 of Coronavirus restrictions, beginning when the national lockdown expires on 2 December.
The whole of Kent is also in Tier 3, which is described as Very High Alert. The tiers will be reviewed by Government on 16 December.
Cllr Gerry Clarkson, Leader of Ashford Borough Council, said: “While this is highly disappointing when considering the relatively low rates of confirmed cases being recorded across Ashford in recent weeks, we must continue to work with our partners in Kent County Council and Public Health England to best manage the situation.
“This is a difficult and challenging time for us all, especially as we approach the festive season when thoughts turn to seeing our loved ones again and businesses seek to make the most of what is traditionally a critical time of the year for them.
“But by working together we shall prevail, and come out of this period stronger together,” added Cllr Clarkson.
